Overview

Panchase Trek is one of the most rewarding short treks in the Annapurna region, offering breathtaking panoramic views, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. This trek is perfect for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure with moderate difficulty, making it suitable for families, beginners, and nature lovers. The trek takes you through lush rhododendron forests, traditional Gurung and Magar villages, and peaceful mountain trails, providing an authentic Himalayan experience without the crowds found on more popular routes.

One of the highlights of the Panchase Trek is the viewpoint at Panchase Hill (2,500m), which offers a stunning sunrise over the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains. The trek starts from Pokhara and passes through several picturesque villages, allowing trekkers to immerse themselves in the local culture and traditions. Along the way, you will encounter diverse flora and fauna, tranquil lakes, and sacred temples, making the journey not only a physical adventure but also a spiritual and cultural experience.

Best Season for Panchase Trek
The best time to embark on the Panchase Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. During these months, the weather is stable, and the skies remain clear, providing unobstructed views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Spring brings vibrant rhododendron blooms and lush greenery, making the trek even more scenic and enjoyable. The moderate temperatures during this season also ensure a comfortable trekking experience.

Autumn is another excellent time for the trek, as the monsoon rains will have cleared the dust and pollution, resulting in crystal-clear mountain views. The temperatures are mild, and the trails are dry, making for easy and safe trekking. Winter (December to February) can be quite cold at higher elevations, with occasional snowfall, while the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rains and slippery trails, making trekking more challenging.

Panchase Trekking Permits
Unlike other treks in the Annapurna region, Panchase Trek does not require a special trekking permit. However, trekkers must obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits help support conservation efforts in the region and ensure the safety of trekkers.

The ACAP permit costs NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 25) for international trekkers and NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals. The TIMS card costs around NPR 2,700 (USD $20) per person. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara through the Nepal Tourism Board or registered trekking agencies like Adventure Metro Everest Travel & Treks.

Panchase Trekking Difficulty
The Panchase Trek is considered an easy to moderate trek, making it suitable for beginners and families. The trails consist of well-maintained paths, stone steps, and gentle ascents, with a maximum elevation of around 2,500 meters at Panchase Hill. Since the altitude is relatively low, there is little risk of altitude sickness, which makes it an excellent choice for those who want to experience trekking in Nepal without extreme physical challenges.

On average, trekkers walk 4–6 hours per day, covering a total distance of about 35–40 km. While the trek is not very demanding, some uphill sections require moderate fitness. With proper preparation, including light training and endurance exercises, anyone with average physical fitness can complete the Panchase Trek comfortably.

Food and Accommodation for Panchase Trek
Food and accommodation on the Panchase Trek are relatively simple but comfortable. Along the route, there are small teahouses and homestays run by local families, offering basic yet cozy rooms with twin beds and shared bathrooms. Some lodges provide attached bathrooms in popular villages, but they are limited.

Teahouses serve a variety of meals, including traditional Nepali Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), noodles, fried rice, soups, and Tibetan bread. Western options like pancakes, eggs, and pasta are also available in some places. Drinking water is available at lodges, but it is advisable to bring water purification tablets or a reusable water bottle with a filter to ensure safe drinking water.

Communication and Networking
Mobile network coverage along the Panchase Trek is relatively good, with major providers like NTC (Nepal Telecom) and Ncell offering connectivity in most villages. However, in remote areas, the signal may be weak or unavailable. It is recommended to get a local SIM card with a data plan before starting the trek for better connectivity.

Wi-Fi is available at some teahouses, especially in villages closer to Pokhara, but the service can be slow and unreliable. For those who need constant communication, a satellite phone or offline maps can be useful alternatives. Adventure Metro Everest Travel & Treks ensures that our trekking guides have communication devices to maintain safety and coordination during the trek.

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. The journey takes around 6-7 hours along winding roads with breathtaking views of rivers, terraced fields, and rural villages. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will check into your hotel and have the rest of the day to explore this beautiful lakeside city. You can take a boat ride on Phewa Lake, visit Tal Barahi Temple, or relax at one of the many lakeside cafes with stunning views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains.

Today marks the beginning of our trek! After breakfast, we take a short drive to Khare, the starting point of the Panchase Trek. The trail begins with a gentle uphill climb through lush forests, small villages, and terraced fields. As we ascend, we are rewarded with stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. After about 4-5 hours of trekking, we reach Bhumdi, a peaceful village surrounded by forests. Here, we stay in a teahouse and enjoy the first evening in the tranquility of the Himalayas.

After an early breakfast, we continue our trek through dense rhododendron and oak forests, home to a variety of bird species. The trail includes steep ascents and descents, but the effort is well worth it as we approach Panchase Bhanjyang, the highest point of our trek. From here, we get breathtaking panoramic views of Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. Panchase is also a sacred site, and locals believe it to be a spiritual place with ancient temples and meditation spots. We stay overnight in a teahouse with stunning mountain views.

Early in the morning, we hike to Panchase Hill (2,500m) to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the Himalayas. The golden hues illuminating the peaks create a magical moment. After enjoying the sunrise, we descend through charming villages, terraced farmlands, and forests to reach Bhadaure, a traditional Gurung village. This village offers an authentic cultural experience, and you can interact with the locals and learn about their daily life. We spend the night in a teahouse with spectacular mountain scenery.

Today’s trek takes us to Sarangkot, one of the most famous viewpoints in Nepal. The trail consists of stone-paved paths, dense forests, and small settlements. As we reach Sarangkot, we are greeted by breathtaking views of Phewa Lake, Pokhara Valley, and the entire Annapurna range. Sarangkot is known for its incredible sunrise and sunset views, and it's also a popular paragliding destination. We spend our last night in the mountains at a cozy guesthouse, enjoying the peaceful ambiance.

After witnessing a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas, we descend towards Pokhara. The walk is easy and scenic, passing through local villages and farmland. Upon reaching Pokhara, we take some time to relax, have lunch, and explore more of this beautiful city.

In the afternoon, we take a scenic drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we transfer to the hotel. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our trek.

Our incredible journey comes to an end. Depending on your flight schedule, our team will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. If you have extra time, we can arrange additional activities such as Everest mountain flights, cultural tours, or short day hikes.
