Overview

Phulchowki Day Hike from Godavari is a popular outdoor activity for nature enthusiasts and hikers visiting Nepal. Phulchowki, standing at an altitude of 2782 meters, is the highest hill surrounding the Kathmandu Valley and is renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning views of the Himalayas.

The hike typically starts from Godavari, a picturesque village located at the base of Phulchowki Hill, around 10 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu. From Godavari, hikers begin their ascent through lush forests filled with a variety of flora and fauna. The trail is well-marked, though it can be steep in places, offering a moderate level of difficulty.

Along the way, hikers may encounter colorful birds, butterflies, and even monkeys. The diverse vegetation includes rhododendron forests, pine trees, and ferns, creating a scenic backdrop for the journey. As you climb higher, the views of the Kathmandu Valley below become increasingly breathtaking.

Upon reaching the summit of Phulchowki, hikers are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar, and even Mount Everest on a clear day. It's a perfect spot to rest, enjoy a picnic, and soak in the natural beauty before descending back to Godavari.

The entire hike typically takes around 5 to 6 hours round trip, depending on your pace and the amount of time spent at the summit. It's advisable to bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and proper hiking gear. Additionally, it's recommended to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and to allow sufficient time to complete the hike before sunset.
